Historically, the concept of a shower was born out of our creative ancestors positioning themselves under a free flowing waterfall and utilizing the power of the rushing waters to clean themselves.  Over time, we have brought the waterfall inside the house in a variety of ways.  There are now a vast array of options when it comes to showers and we no longer need to head outdoors into often icy cold waters.  While we no longer have the challenges of our ancestors, now we are presented with different challenges.  There are those who have been involved in installing a shower who might tell you that it would be less of a challenge to go out to a waterfall every day.  But, we hope to make the process easier by providing you with the right information.

We have come a long way from using waterfalls as showers to the point where people are now choosing to install steam showers and walk in showers in addition to the more traditional bathroom shower.  There are many opportunities to find the right shower to match any bathroom design.

When choosing a shower it is important to decide how prominent you want the shower and shower doors to be, or how big a part of the bathroom  you want a walk-in shower to be.  Many people with smaller bathrooms opt for a walk in.  The steam shower is growing in popularity and is available in a variety of shapes and styles.  So the first step is to decide if you want the bathroom to fit around the shower or the shower to fit into the bathroom.  This will be critical for moving forward.  If you want the shower to the prominent feature than this should be selected first and then you can build around it.  But if you prefer to choose a vanity or tiles first, then you should hold off on choosing a shower until you have decided on a bathroom remodeling design.

Once you decide on your priorities then you can move on to deciding between the various types of showers.  A bathtub shower combination is a popular option for large bathrooms.  For even larger bathrooms you can separate the two and have both a shower stall and a bathtub.  And for smaller bathrooms, you will want to stick to a shower stall on its own to conserve space.  Walk-in showers give an open feel to both small and large bathrooms but take care to install the proper flooring so as not to damage the floor.

Steam showers have become increasingly popular and offer added functionality to the shower experience.  A steam shower can be turned into your own private steam room which provides you with the ability to relax in the privacy of your own home after a long day.

Once you decide on a shower, take care to select a shower head which will provide you with the water flow that is most appealing to you, and also determine if you will want a filtered shower head.

Once you decide on the style, pick out the shower of your dreams and move on to the other ares of the bathroom.
