The bathroom sink traditionally served in a functional capacity. It was a round fixture shaped like a bowl which was used for brushing teeth, washing one’s hands and face, and other everyday activities. People have moved away from using sinks solely for their practical purposes and have chosen to use sinks to help create the right feel within a bathroom. As such, the variety when it comes to sinks is constantly increasing and that gives consumers greater opportunities to find something that they would really like. The downside is that the decision making process is now a bit more challenging because people are looking for the perfect sink that will help to create the desired look that they are going for.
In order to help you decide on the type of sink that would best serve your needs, we have put together a list of the five most popular sink styles and we will discuss the advantages and disadvantages to each. We hope that after you review the options, you will have a better idea of what type of sink you would prefer. Keep in mind that each option comes in many styles and colors to match the rest of your bathroom.
1. Pedestal Sink
These are standalone sinks which are chosen mainly because people appreciate the style and the class that they add to the décor. They have a lot to offer in terms of style but bear in mind that you will have to purchase a matching pedestal to support the pedestal sink and that some of the pipes will be visible.
2. Console Sink
These are considered to be closely related to the pedestal sink insofar as the plumbing is also usually exposed. The style factor is often not as impressive as the pedestal sink but what you lack in style you gain in convenience because you have ample room to place items on the console itself.
3. Vanity Sink
This option usually provides the most countertop space and is simply placed on top of an existing cabinet or other piece of furniture and are often more functional than stylish. However, there are many ways to go with these and you can find something that suits your fancy.
4. Vessel Sink
Vessel sinks are fast becoming a top choice among the trendier bathroom designs. They are essentially a fancy looking bowl that is placed atop a counter or other piece of furniture and collect the water that flows out of a fancy faucet. They are not the most practical by any means and often do not provide the standard overflow drain that come standard on traditional sinks. This is an option if you are more concerned with style than with function.
5. Countertop Sinks
This option seems almost boring in comparison to the above sink types but it is the most popular and it is a classic. It is functional and even though it is the most basic of all the choices, some options exist which can definitely provide some character to an otherwise typical bathroom.
