Vessel Sinks - Discount glass, stone, porcelain, ceramic sinks

Tips for choosing a vessel sink vanity, stone vessel sink, vessel sink faucet, vessel sink stand, and stone, bronze, granite, copper, or glass vessel sinks.

In the sink department, there is one type of sink that stands out in our minds which is deserving of more attention than the others.  Due to its increasing popularity, and by nature of the product, the sheer variety of options available, many more people are turning their attention towards a vessel sink.  So we are going to discuss the vessel sink in more detail than we did in the Sinks section of our site.

When choosing a sink, and most bathroom products in general, we are often limited to the choices, though there are many, that are provided by the manufacturers.  When it comes to vessel sinks, we are given a much greater opportunity to create a truly unique design that we can develop completely on our own.  Vessel sinks, as the name implies, are simply vessels, shaped like bowls, which collect the water which flows from an often equally impressive looking fountain.

Due to the fact that vessel sinks are essentially so simple, they lack some of the basic plumbing features of a standard sink such as an overflow drain.  That being said, it is possible to install a grid drain which can replace an overflow drain for the most part.  But, this is a sink option for a more stylish design.  People who go with the vessel sink are generally more concerned with the look than with the function anyway.  But, truthfully, many people prefer the function of the vessel anyway as it often provides more room to wash up and actually use the sink because of the distance of the faucet from the base of the bowl.

So let’s look at five popular vessel sink materials that you can choose from.  But remember, if you want to you can get very creative with vessel sinks and you don’t have to limit yourself to the options that you find in the stores.  It is not difficult to create a vessel sink using a favorite bowl of yours.  Often times it is possible to make a hole in the bottom of a well built bowl and create your own vessel but be sure you take the proper safety precautions if you choose to go this route.

1. Granite

Granite is always been a favorite for countertops and is now a favorite in this category as well.  Most people appreciate the classic style and durability of granite over the other options.

2. Bronze

A bronze vessel sink gives a bathroom a traditional look but does not sacrifice style.  It is important to remember that bronze is susceptible to damage from abrasive sponges so be sure to use soft materials when cleaning your bronze vessel sink.

3. Stone

This is the practical choice within the category.  Stone will generally stand up to scratches and other types of damage more than other materials but you often sacrifice some style points.

4. Glass

If you want to get creative, glass vessel sinks give you the opportunity to do so.  There are so many ways to go with this one as far as personalization an customization go because glass is so malleable so the limit is really your imagination with these.

5. Copper

Copper vessel sinks are quickly gaining in popularity due to their beauty and texture.  These sinks are generally made entirely of copper so it is important to take care not to scratch the surfaces as copper is a soft metal by nature.
